Planning Commission
The Planning Commission adopts a Master Plan for the physical development of the city, reviews the Capital Improvements Plan, recommends zoning changes, approves plats and governs the subdivision of land.

Meetings are held on the first Monday of each month @ 5:30 P.M.- in Council Chambers unless otherwise indicated.

About the Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is a volunteer board whose members are appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council.
It holds public meetings and hearings regarding City planning and development issues and provides recommendations to the City Council.
The Planning Commission meets on the 1st Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at Reed City Hall. Official holidays, inclement weather or other factors may occasionally cause meeting date or time changes, so be sure to check ahead of time. The meetings are open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.

About the Position of Planning Commissioner
The position of Planning Commissioner is one of the most important volunteer positions in the City. Planning Commissioners set the future course for City development and review and approve the site plans of all commercial and industrial development in the City. An example is the new Ebels General Store due to open in February 2021.
Citizens interested in serving as a Planning Commissioner are invited to fill out the “interest form” found at https://tinyurl.com/yydnkoq5.
Upon appointment as a Planning Commissioner, you will be provided the Planning Commissioners Handbook prepared by the Michigan Municipal League to help guide you in the position.
As a Planning Commissioner there are several expectations:
- Attend Meetings-1 per month plus specials- about 14 per year.
- Knowledge of Planning Commission By Laws.
