City of Reed City
On Tuesday January 6th, 2026, at the Reed City Wastewater Treatment Plant, while going through equipment start-up as part of an upgrade project a subcontractor inadvertently opened vales that should have remained closed. Plant staff noticed and closed the valves, but an estimated 3500 gallons of partially treated sewage was released to the Hersey River. Health Department and State authorities were notified, and the river was tested for E Coli, results indicate no adverse effects to river water quality.
