Housing Commission

The Reed City Housing Commission (5 members) is a Public Housing Agency that sets policy for an executive director to implement. The Commission participates in the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program for 90 vouchers (within a 30 mile radius), and oversees 101 units of subsidized Public Housing and Independent Living at Meadowview Village, 802 S Mill St, Reed City, MI 49677.

Commissioners are appointed by the Reed City Council for 5 year terms. Training for new commissioners is provided by HUD and other housing agencies and professional associations when available.

Expectations:

  • Serve for a term of 5 years and Attend 10-12 meetings a year.
  • Become familiar with Housing Choice voucher program (w/budget of $250,000).
  • Become familiar with details of budget for the 101 Meadowview units ($570,000).
  • Review all monthly bills for both programs.
  • Attend a Housing Commissioner training session, when available, at little or no expense to the Commissioner.
  • Become familiar with the current Policies as Updated and dictated by HUD.
